The race for the Oscars has officially begun. The nominees for the 98th Academy Awards have been announced, revealed live by actors Danielle Brooks and Lewis Pullman.
Ryan Coogler’s thriller Sinners emerged as the clear frontrunner, leading the field with a record-breaking 16 nominations. In doing so, it surpassed previous benchmarks set by films such as Titanic and La La Land. The achievement also marks a personal milestone for Coogler, who received his first-ever nominations for Best Director and Best Screenplay.
At 30, Timothée Chalamet earned the third acting nomination of his career for his performance in Marty Supreme. Michael B. Jordan, meanwhile, secured long-awaited Academy recognition with a Best Actor nomination for his dual role in Sinners.

This year’s ceremony will be hosted by Conan O’Brien, who returns to the Dolby Theatre stage for a second consecutive year. Among the leading contenders is One Battle After Another, which earned 13 nominations and is widely viewed as Sinners’ main challenger. The strong showing for the horror genre, coupled with a new nominations record, adds further anticipation to the March 15 ceremony.
